A passion of mine, for as long as I can remember, is giving back. I struggled a lot growing up, and never want other people to feel the way I did. I spend a lot of my time figuring out ways I can help others.
One night, I was trying to fall asleep. I was tossing and turning because of high noise volume going on outside my apartment. Since I had an early class in the morning, I immediately began to think about how I can resolve this issue. As I laid there with my thoughts, I imagined how many other people go through the same issue. I then thought: what if there was a pillow that blocked out noise? I could not stop thinking about this idea, thinking of different features and ways to improve it. Knowing not everyone likes to sleep in complete silence, I added soothing sound effects to the idea, such as white-noise, crickets, fireplace, and more.
After thinking about what features would be in the pillow, I realized that with a regular pillow, only one ear is covered. I came up with a way to fix that: instead of the pillow being a flat, regular pillow, this new pillow will have a sandwich style, that can easily cover both of the user’s ears. However, if the user is unable to hear any noise outside of the pillow, they would not be able to hear their alarm clock to wake up on time. I then decided there would be a built-in, vibrating, alarm clock, so people can get the good night’s sleep they need and deserve, while still being able to wake up on time and be productive. And thus, The Sound Pillow was born.
Pictured below is a model of what I imagine The Sound Pillow to look like:
I am continuously trying to think of ways to improve this product, where background noise will no longer be a factor to preventing people from getting their best sleep possible.
